I started collecting Warhammer in 1988, when I was in high school and 3rd Edition the current game, with my first Skaven and Dark Elf miniatures. When 4th Edition arrived, I split a boxed set with a local game store owner so we could each build armies and help start a local community; between 1990 and 1996, those early Skaven and Dark Elf collections grew into full, playable armies. In graduate school I added a Chaos army and played constantly with a new group of friends in Arkansas, and over the years Warhammer followed me through gaming groups in Memphis, St. Louis, Chicago, and Dallas. After the End Times, I shifted much of that enthusiasm into Total War: Warhammer, which kept me connected to the setting even when I was no longer playing the tabletop game regularly. With the return of Warhammer Fantasy through The Old World, I’ve come full circle and am once again happily pushing toy soldiers around imaginary battlefields.
